Southern Cross Credit Union Community Partnership

Policy & Guidelines

Our General Requirements
Southern Cross Credit Union is a proudly community-based organisation, committed to the worldwide credit union philosophy of “People Helping People” and in this capacity we promote social responsibility as a highly ethical corporate citizen.

SCCU selects sponsorship opportunities that are aligned with our strategic direction and corporate values. We have chosen to actively support those members of our community who volunteer to work to improve the cultural, social, environmental, health and educational needs of our area.

We generally request exclusivity in product category in our sponsorship relations and do not, as a rule, involve ourselves in a partnership where other businesses in the financial services area (banking, insurance, financial planning) have a major role.

In keeping with our “Community Banking” philosophy, Southern Cross Credit Union has a commitment to provide support to events/activities being held, or groups based, within the local area, and not those located outside the boundaries covered by our ten branches in the Northern Rivers Region.

Our Guidelines
To be considered for Southern Cross Credit Union’s Community Partnership Program, your event or organisation should:

  • Reflect the Credit Union’s values in community support and development;
  • Possess and maintain a high level of professionalism;
  • Provide a means to reach our target audience (the Credit Union offers financial services to a broad age spectrum);
  • Be local to our areas of business – Northern Rivers Region bounded by Casino, Ballina and Tweed Heads;
  • Provide an effective communication channel to existing and potential members and when possible, offer the opportunity for Credit Union representatives to deal directly with this market;
  • Demonstrate the ability to work closely with the Credit Union marketing department in order to produce effective and mutually beneficial marketing strategies; and
  • Guarantee that no financial provider competitor will be involved in the activity.

Each year we receive a significant number of sponsorship requests and unfortunately we cannot meet all of these needs. However, we do give careful consideration to all applications submitted, except those relating to the following:

  • Sponsorship of organisations linked to controversial, contentious or divisive socio-political issues;
  • Those promoting anti-social disruptive activities such as gambling, alcohol or drugs;
  • International events;
  • Events sponsored by competitors; or
  • Individuals.

If you would like Southern Cross Credit Union to consider supporting your charity, community or sporting activities, and your request exceeds $250, you will need to submit a Community Partnership Application Form.

For requests of $250 and below, please refer to the Southern Cross Credit Union Guidelines for Sponsorship and forward an application in writing addressing the points within. Both of these are available as pdf files to be downloaded using Adobe Acrobat Reader.
All applications are reviewed and processed though our Head Office in Murwillumbah and should be forwarded by post, fax or email to:
