What Is Open Banking?

Introduced by the Australian Government in 2019, the Consumer Data Right (CDR), also known as Open Banking, provides customers with greater choice and control over how their data is used and disclosed.

It lets you access more information for easy product comparison. Additionally, it allows you to securely share your banking data with accredited third parties – like budgeting apps or other banks – as long as you consent for it.

You decide what data to share, who sees it, and for how long.

Consumer Data Right (CDR) Policy

Our Consumer Data Rights Policy provides information about how we manage specific data under the Consumer Data Right and explains how third parties are able to retrieve information about the products we offer. It is designed and documented to support the Australian Consumer Data Standards.

It ensures your information is shared only with your permission, and only with accredited providers who meet strict privacy and security standards.

Open Banking FAQs

  • What are the benefits of Open Banking?

Open Banking will increase competition between banks and financial institutions and accredited third parties, by making it easier for consumers to compare and switch. It will give you more control of your data, and greater visibility to manage your finances better.

  • What type of data is shared with Open Banking?

Product reference data is currently available which does not contain any personal or sensitive data. From 01 November 2021 personal information will be available to be shared, but only once you, as the customer, have given consent for this to happen.

Further information on how to provide consent, please see the CDR Customer Guide link listed in the first section of this page.

Initially personal customer data (known as consumer data) will only be available for single accounts, overdrafts, business accounts and select loan products, with remaining products phased in during 2022. Data for joint accounts will also become available in accordance with the Consumer Data Right (CDR) Timetable.

  • Do you have a product API for developers?

For Developers interested in using the product API

The SCCU Open banking Product API (Application Programming Interface) enables third parties to retrieve information about products that SCCU currently offers. It is designed and documented to support the Australian Consumer Data Standards.

Our product API includes products for both retail and business customers such as:

    • Transaction Accounts
    • Savings Accounts
    • Term Deposits
    • Personal, Business & Home Loans

Data for additional products will be progressively added to the API in line with the timeframes specified by the Consumer Data Right.

    How to Access our API

Product details including conditions, rates and fees may change from time to time without notice. Please direct your end users to refer to sccu.com.au for current product details.

    The Get products API is located at the following URL;

Shane provided amazing customer service from start to finish. He was extremely knowledgeable, respectful, and attended to every detail of the process with thoroughness and professionalism. This kind of customer service is almost unheard of these days, so it was an absolute delight to work with Shane. The interest rate on my company car was fantastic and the terms of the loan were both fair and reasonable. I 100% recommend Shane and Southern Cross Credit Union for obtaining financing for a vehicle and wouldn't use anyone else for my business going forward. Thanks to Shane and his team!

Previously we were not advocates of the banking industry, we were strong non-believers after some disappointing & negative experiences. Many locals referred us to Southern Cross Credit Union (SCCU) and after much encouragement we moved our banking business to the SCCU Tweed City Branch. We are now strong believers as we have been in the extremely efficient, effective and supportive hands of SCCU loans manager Stephen Distant. What an asset! Stephen has totally reframed our banking experience, we are genuinely impressed with his ability to do this by managing our loans. Even after many years as a SCCU client, Stephen's dedication with helping us has not died down, his loyalty remains nothing short of inspiring and his willingness to provide outstanding customer service is something we are in awe of. Moving our accounts to SCCU was a great decision, thanks to Stephen Distant.

As COVID hit some 3 years ago, I approached SCCU to re-align our financial position at both a personal and professional level with our business. Not only were your team receptive but with the assistance of SCCU not only did we make our way through COVID closures, but due to the support of SCCU we have evolved into an extremely sound business, and I would suggest a success story of the community banking that SCCU continues to deliver.Thank you for the support you offer to us as a local business and us as a local family of the area. Thank you, the entire team, at SCCU for being such an awesome part of the community whilst also being a great business to align with.
