Steve has been a valued part of the SCCU team for almost twenty years. With unrivalled industry experience across the entire spectrum of personal and business banking services, Steve works with customers on everything from home loans, to business banking and helps dreams come true for so many – always going the extra mile.
A long-time resident of the southern end of the Gold Coast, you’ll find Steve mobile, meeting customers where it best suits them, often being mentioned by name from other happy customers or through his many advocates throughout the region. Having started with SCCU as Manager and Lender at the Tweed City branch, which he did for over 15 years after making the move from Westpac, Steve’s decision to move from the big banks to SCCU is something he has never looked back on.
Steve wanted to focus on customer experience, which still drives him today and is why he chooses SCCU, as it aligns to his core personal values of trust, authenticity and going above and beyond in helping customers.
I really believe in Southern Cross Credit Union. I believe in what we are and where we’re at – our philosophies and policies. It’s a great place to work.
Steve believes in providing a personal touch and believes customers’ deserve more than a standard rejection letter. Always happy to go the extra mile when it comes to service, Steve has helped countless customers put strategies in place to achieve financial goals and help them better understand the steps needed to set them up for lending in the future.
I never squash the dream for that client. I work with customers to educate them to help them get into a better position. It might be as simple as encouraging them to set up a separate savings account and putting funds in there for a period of time. Whatever it might be, I want customers to know that I genuinely want to help.
Going the extra mile for Steve is somewhat of a theme. As a seasoned marathon runner Steve also uses his passion to inspire, partnering with the MND and Me Foundation to raise funds and awareness for motor neuron disease. MND and Me Foundation is a not for profit organisation that focuses on donating funds to help find a cure and is committed to improving the lives of those impacted by Motor Neurone Disease. This association was spurred on by the passing of a close friend and Steve has spent the last eight years fundraising and raising awareness for MND through his participation with the Gold Coast Marathon. Steve has transformed a personal loss to inspired action and has raised thousands of dollars over the years, to help make a difference to this cause.
When he’s not on the road meeting customers or hitting the pavement for some training, Steve is kept busy by three active boys who enjoy playing footy. You’ll see him around the traps coaching and volunteering time at the local rugby club. This give back mentality is why SCCU and Steve are a great fit!
