Steven Quirke

Like many of our Financial Service Centre Managers (FSCM), Steve Quirke is both friendly and experienced with over 15 years in financial services. As well as a strong foundation in banking and home lending solutions, Steve has also had first-hand experience running his own small regional business.

Beginning his career in Melbourne with NAB, Steve made the move back up to Northern NSW, joining the Southern Cross Credit Union (SCCU) team in Mullumbimby in 2019. Looking for a fresh perspective and an ethical standpoint that he could feel aligned with, Steve jumped at the opportunity to join SCCU and can often be seen chatting to the local Mullumbimby community on his very short (and convenient) commute.

“It’s great to work for an institution where giving back to the community was so much more tangible. It isn’t just lip service. You can see that SCCU invests ethically and responsibly.”

Being a local, he really appreciates being able to get out into the community, making connections and presenting support on behalf of SCCU to a variety of great causes. Mullum Cares is one cause that is close to Steve’s heart, a Not For Profit (NFP) organisation that promotes and supports the growing consumer demand for conservation. Volunteering with his family, you’ll often see Steve get involved in projects including the The Mullum Library of STUFF’, a project, that provides affordable access to quality goods for the Byron Shire Community including individuals, families, businesses, schools and NFP organisations. He also was proud to present the $5,000 SCCU cheque as part of the 2019 Community Grant to local group, Reforest Now to help meet the growing demand for trees to be replanted in our region.

There are so many people who need that little bit of support to help them move forward with their financial goals and for  Steve it’s about celebrating the every win  –  from helping people buy their first home, to helping a 75-year old Mullum local with internet banking and transactions.
